Increasing memory SMC is using

Håkan Nyander -

To increase memory used by SMC can be done by modifying so called .vmoptions file. In windows the file is located in \\Program Files\Solibri\SMCv9.6. The file name is 'Solibri Model Checker v9.vmoptions'. Note that if you are using some other version of SMC, the file name and location can be different.
In mac the file is located inside executable file. Instructions to open and edit it can be found in the end of this document.
You can open the file by any text editor like Notepad. The first line of the file shows the maximum amount of memory SMC reserves from the system. For the computers with lot of memory it can look like:
-Xmx8139m
For the computer with limited amount of memory it can like:
-Xmx1000m
You can try to increase (or decrease) amount of memory by editing the number after 'Xmx'. Please do it step by step, e.g. by 100m at once. Save the file and start SMC again. If you increase too much, SMC will tell you that there are not enough memory in your computer.
Please notify that we suggest you to have at least 4 GB RAM (see http://www.solibri.com/products/solibri-model-checker/#system-recommendations). If you are working with very large models, 8 GB or even more can be needed.
Modifying SMC vmOptions in Mac
SMC has some special option parameters which are read when smc is started. They are located in so called vmoptions file (like Solibri Model Checker v9.6.vmoptions) located in the same folder than executable file (like Solibri Model Checker v9.6.exe in Windows). In some cases there is a need to modify those parameters. The most typical case is to edit amount of maximum memory SMC is reserving when starting.
Editing vmoptions in Windows is quite straightforward. Open the file in any text editor (like Notepad), edit and save. In Mac environment it is little bit more challenging. To edit the file in Mac please follow the steps:
In versions 9.6 and newer
1. Goto Applications -> Solibri Model Checker v9.6
2. Right click in top of icon 'Solibri Model Checker v9.6' (double click will start SMC)
3. Select 'Show package contents'
4. Inside the package go -> Contents -> vmoptions.txt
5. Open vmoptions.txt in textEdit (start text textEdit and drag&drop file to it)
6. The file contains all same parameters than VMoptions file in Windows. Edit or add parameter as asked above
7. Save the modified vmoptions.txt to your desktop (use the same file name)
8. drag and drop the new file to the original package overwriting the original version of vmoptions.txt
In versions 9.5 and older
1. Goto Applications -> Solibri Model Checker v8.1
2. Right click in top of icon 'Solibri Model Checker v8.1' (double click will start SMC)
3. Select 'Show package contents'
4. Inside the package go -> Contents -> info.plist
5. Open info.plist in textEdit (start text textEdit and drag&drop file to it)
6. Search row '<key>VMOptions<\key>
7. The row following that row contains all same parameters than VMoptions file in Windows. Edit or add parameter as asked (make sure it is inside <Sting> and <\String> keywords)
8. Save the modified info.plist to your desktop (use the same file name)
9. drag and drop the new file to the original package overwriting the original version of info.plist
After modifying options you have to start SMC again
